Memory Card Readers

A memory card reader is probably best described as one of those accessories that you either need or you don't. We certainly recommend the use of memory card readers if you regularly transfer data from a memory card to your computer. 

Some of the benefits of using a card reader are that you don't have to fiddle around with trying to plug your camera or other device into your computer. You simply take the memory card out of the camera and slot it into the reader. In doing so, you also save the host device battery energy. Furthermore, we have found that sometimes the transfer speed can be slower when connecting a camera directly to the computer than when using a purpose made memory reader. 

If cost is of primary concern to you, you will perhaps wish to buy a reader that is specific to one type of memory. For very cheap cost you can buy a reader with a single card slot. 

Some of the most useful types of card readers are those that have multiple slots for accommodating most, or all, types of cards. This is especially useful if you own multiple devices that use different memory cards. Or perhaps you are in business; let's say you are website developer and your client visits you with some new photos that they have stored on a memory card. With a multi slot reader you'd be able to slot in just about any card that they have brought with them. Or, you may want to get a copy of some photos that visiting family and friends have made with their digital camera and quickly burn a CD. In such a case owning a card reader that accepts multiple memory formats would be a highly beneficial.
