Memory Stick - Widespread compatibility with today's leading digital hardware

Memory Stick is the flash memory format introduced by Sony and is used in a multitude of compatible electronic devices produced by them. One of the great things about Memory sticks is that they are interchangeable amongst host devices, which allows for easy data recording, sharing and transferring of data files between individual pieces of digital equipment. It is able to store this multiple source data simultaneously.

Naturally, the range of devices that support Memory Stick is huge and includes car audio & navigation equipment, digital cameras, DVD players, TV's, projectors, PDA's, portable music players, cell phones and much more. As such, it is format that is gaining popularity amongst third party manufacturers that are now designing and producing new products capable of accommodating the Stick.

New stick memory formats introduced to meet the demands of smaller, slicker and faster host devices

The Sony Memory Stick was originally launched as a single format in 1998, since then the development of electronic devices that require either smaller, faster or more secure data storage has led to the introduction of  additional formats, namely Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro and Memory Stick Pro Duo.

Other companies are now licensed to manufacture Memory Stick media which makes it easy for consumers to buy their preferred brand, some of which may incorporate additional features to the standard models produced by Sony.

Is Memory Stick up to the job? You bet it is!

Memory Stick measures just 50mm x 21.5mm x 2.8mmm, making it both portable and easy to handle. Its housing is robust and a lack of moving parts means that the solid state internal components are not prone to wear and tear. This in turn means that consumers can depend on it to provide long term reliability. In fact, its manufacturers claim that it can be read and written to tens of thousands of times without any adverse affect on its performance.

All things considered, it is quite likely that a memory stick will outlive the host device that it was originally shipped with, or bought for, by many years!
